History of the School
Maniototo Area School, located in Ranfurly, Central Otago has a rich history dating back to its founding in 1879. Initially established as Eweburn School, it evolved over the years to become the first area school in New Zealand in 1969. This transformation allowed the school to provide seamless education from Year 1 to Year 13 on a single campus, serving students aged 5 to 18.
Key Historical Milestones:
- 1879: Founded as Eweburn School, starting with a cob-built structure.
- 1901: Moved to the Dungannon Street site.
- 1969: Became the first area school in New Zealand, integrating primary and secondary education.
- 2023: Official opening of school rebuild
