I’m excited to join Maniototo Area School as the interim Principal.
I have been a Principal for 32 years spanning rural Primary through to urban Intermediate, most recently finishing after 25 years as Principal at Balmacewen Intermediate.
I’m a life-long learner. I love learning about people and culture through travel and reading. I’m passionate about the important role teaching and learning has in building kind, resilient and capable communities. I have a general interest in all sports and have enjoyed coaching rugby at club and provincial level.
My connection to Maniototo goes back several generations to the Blackstone Hill and Hills Creek area. I’m also a part time Naseby resident and love everything our amazing environment has to offer!
It is a privilege to join this wonderful school and I’m looking forward to supporting staff, students and families.

The Maniototo is sometimes referred to as ‘big sky country’. We are framed by stunning mountain ranges, and enjoy vast open plains. Our landscape is stunning and stretches for miles.
We use this geography as a metaphor for our vision for learning. In this big sky country we want our students to dream big, and fly high. We believe in nurturing high aspirations and about building determination and resilience in our learners. We are driven by a shared belief that all students can succeed and they are encouraged to set ambitious goals, challenge themselves, and develop a strong work ethic. Success is not only measured by academic achievement but also by the development of character, leadership, and a commitment to lifelong learning.
We want our students to know that anything is possible – the sky is the limit.
