Our secondary school has small class sizes and a low teacher/pupil ratio. This allows us to build great relationships and focus upon raising achievement for all our students. Our staff are highly qualified and place a high value on education and emotional well being.
Whanau Groups
The pastoral care of students is overseen by their whānau teacher. Each whānau group comprises a mixture of students from across year levels 9-13. The student remains in the same whānau group each year, meaning students will have the same whānau teacher from Year 9 to Year 13. This enables them to develop a strong bond over time, where the whānau teacher has a very in-depth understanding of the student’s needs, interests and abilities.
Our whanau teachers are:
- Mr Nigel Pacey
- Ms Joanna Brooks
- Ms Anna Sillibourne
- Mrs Michelle Dowling & Mrs Amanda Graham

Extra Curricular
Duke of Edinburgh
The Duke of Edinburgh’s international award programme creates opportunities for our young people to learn a new skill (or develop an existing one), get physically active, give service to their communities, and take part in an adventure. The experience helps them build self-confidence and greater resilience, helping prepare them for challenges they will face in their future lives. The Award is open to MAS students 14 years and older.
For more information, please contact teacher-in-charge of the programme Mrs Kate Dowling
